My Friend

Created by Beth 7 years ago
Little did I know back in 1985 when Linda selected me as her school secretary at Price Elementary School that it would be the beginning of a life long friendship. She was not only my friend, but she quickly became a treasured "member" of my family. She shared in all of our joys, as well as in our sorrows. We all absolutely adored her!

We had such a great time working together at both Price and Alameda and while there are far too many memories to list on this page, there is one story that I would like to share. When Linda returned to Alameda one day from a principals' meeting, she paused at my desk, looking a bit perplexed. She asked me if I knew the meaning of the word "obstreperous" because Mr. Shiney had accused her of this and she wanted to know just what it meant. Well we pulled out the dictionary, sounded out the word, and found it to mean "noisy, clamorous, unruly" and if I remember correctly "noisily defiant". She was so indignant! She put her hands on her hips and said "I am NOT obstreperous! Oh how we laughed over that one and that word became our "grown up" word. Or the time a little girl was brought to the office with a very badly broken arm - in two places, and as Linda held her arm, she turned her head away from the student & said to me "here's the deal - I won't faint if you won't faint". We had a deal.

But the memory that I will carry closest to my heart of my dear, sweet friend is her precious love for my two daughter, Jody & Kari. She loved them as her own. My girls were her girls and that is just what she would say "how are my girls", or "what is new with my girls". "Tell me about Jody's classroom." " Tell me what is new with Kari." She followed them with s genuine, heartfelt interest from elementary school to the present, always giving encouragement and cheering them on.

And now our heart grieve, but as I remember her, I will thank the Lord God Almighty for bringing her into our lives and for all the good times we shared together.

We send you our love and sincere condolences.
